How much space does a complete setup actually need?
Ask five stores and you'll get five answers measured in marketing. Here are the numbers that decide the purchase, all from manufacturer-published specifications checked 2026-09-22: the driving footprint (floor while in use), the stored footprint (floor while put away), and the clearances (the room to get in, out, and around).

Measure your room like a planner
- Measure the floor patch, not the room. Width and depth of the area that would actually hold the rig, wall to wall or corner to corner. Skip inches occupied by doors, radiators, and everything else that never moves.
- Subtract the swing. Doors that open inward eat the driving footprint. If a door swings into the patch, the patch is smaller than your tape says.
- Compare against driving, then stored. A pack-away setup must satisfy both numbers; a permanent rig only the first, plus the clearance column above (~6 in behind the seat for slider travel is the one people forget).
- Check the path, not just the place. The widest documented rig here is 26.8 in; the heaviest single move is 112 lb. Hallways, stairwells, and doorways between delivery and corner all count.
What the numbers hide
Maker dimensions are the metal, not the session. You enter and exit a seated rig, so standing room in front is part of real use; a folding cockpit needs arm's length while it folds out; and a desk setup borrows the depth behind your chair that you already live in. Our footprints are honest starting points — the planner turns them into a yes-or-no against your measured room, and every setup sheet carries the basis its numbers come from.
One more honest label: we have not assembled these in a real room. The dimensions above are manufacturer-documented; the clearance advice is planning guidance, and each sheet keeps the distinction visible.
